Is wet rot as dangerous as dry rot?
Wet rot is generally less aggressive than dry rot because it stays confined to the damp timber and doesn't spread through masonry. It can still seriously weaken structural wood, though, so it's worth treating promptly.
Can wet rot be treated without replacing the timber?
If decay is caught early, surface-sound timber can often be treated and retained. Badly softened structural timber is cut out and replaced. We keep replacement to the minimum needed.
Will wet rot come back?
Not if the moisture source is removed. Wet rot can only survive in damp wood, so once we fix the leak or damp and the timber dries, it can't return — that's why we always treat the cause.
