What is dry rot?
Dry rot (Serpula lacrymans) is the most destructive timber decay because it can spread through masonry as well as wood, even into relatively dry areas, in search of more timber to consume. It shows as red-brown spore dust, white or grey strands and mushroom-like fruiting bodies. Eradication means removing affected timber, treating the surrounding structure, and — most importantly — eliminating the damp that allowed it to grow.
