How do I know if I have woodworm or rot?
Tiny round holes with fine dust suggest active woodworm, while soft, cracked or crumbling timber and a musty smell suggest wet or dry rot. A survey confirms which you have and how far it has spread before any treatment.
Is dry rot really that serious?
Dry rot can spread through masonry as well as timber and weaken structural elements if left, so it's the most serious of the timber problems. The good news is that, treated properly and with the damp source removed, it's entirely manageable.
Do you have to replace all the affected wood?
